PROFILE OF THE PAKISTAN RURAL WORKERS SOCIAL WELFARE ORGANIZATION (PRWSWO)

The Pakistan Rural Workers Social Welfare Organization (PRWSWO), a non-profit making non-governmental organization, was founded in 1994 by a group of community workers interested in the improvement of the standard of life of the disadvantage sections of the Society, particularly rural masses, through a variety of socio economic services, adopting a multi-disciplinary approach in the different social sectors of the Pakistan Economy.

PRWSWO is one of the most active community based NGO of the Southern Region of Pakistan, with headquarters at Bahawalpur, basically busy in the social uplift of the poverty stricken masses, especially from the rural areas. The NGO is involved in the socio-economic development activities, on self help participatory basis, particularly in the areas of Education, Health, Sanitation & Drinking Water, Drug Prevention, Rural & Agriculture Development and others with emphasis on Child Welfare, Women Development, Human Rights, Environment and Community Mobilization .

REGISTRATION STATUS:

The organization is registered under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance 1961 with the Department of Social Welfare, Women Development & Bait-ul-Mall, Bahawalpur, vide Registration Certificate No. DD.SW&WD:BWP/98/364 Dated 2 nd February 1998. .

AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

  • The main aim of the organization is to act as a facilitator in order to create awareness amongst the rural peoples of their potentials as a force and motivate them to focus their energies to undertake their development according to their aspirations and priorities.

  • To mobilize the under privileged sections of the Society, especially the rural communities through a variety of sustainable socio-economic development activities.

  • To conduct surveys to identify the problems faced by the rural communities with a view to help them develop Village Development Plans.

  • To prepare the local communities to find the solution of their problems on self-help basis.

  • To establish a close coordination between CBO's, Nation Building Departments of the Government, NGO's, National and International Donor Agencies ensuring successful implementation of the plans, programmes and the projects designed and approved by the Govt., Autonomous Organizations, UN Specialized Agencies and International Donors for the benefit of rural masses.

PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED:

The organization has implemented the following projects, details of which are as under:-

  • Elimination of Child Labor from Commercial Agriculture (ILO/IPEC).

  • Integrated Child Survival Health Education Program on Oral Re-hydration Therapy (AusAID).

  • Universal Primary Education Program (UPE) - (UNICEF and Govt. of the Punjab).

  • Education for All - "UJALA" 75 Adult Female Literacy Centers (Social Welfare & Women Development Department, Govt. of the Punjab).

  • Human Rights Legal Literacy Program for Rural Women (Sponsored by ILO/ Ministry of Human Rights/NORAD).

  • Integrated Child Survival Health Education Program on Oral Re-hydration Therapy Child Health Foundation , (CHF), USA

  • Awareness Raising Program on Hepatitis-B for the inhabitants in Tibba Badar Sher Bahawalpur (AusAID)

  • Establishment of Mothers & Child Reproductive Health Centre, Chak 81/Fateh, Tehsil Hasilpur, District Bahawalpur ( TVO Funded)

  • Universal Primary Education Program (UPE) in Tehsil Sadiqabad, District Rahimyar Khan Sponsored by National Commission for Human Development, (NCHD) Government of Pakistan, Islamabad

ON GOING PROJECTS:


The PRWSWO is presently implementing the following projects:-

  • Combating Trafficking in Children Employed as Camel Jockeys to Gulf States (Save the Children Sweden)

  • Capacity Building Training Program of Volunteers in District Bahawalpur (Self Funded) Health Care
